The Manufacturer MX Awards (TMMX) 2026 has opened its entry process with a new structural merger, joining forces with The Manufacturer Top 100 to create a unified platform for industrial recognition. Organised by The Manufacturer in partnership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and produced by Hennik Research, the programme will culminate in a gala dinner at the Titanic Hotel, Liverpool, on Wednesday, November 11, 2026.
This integration aims to provide a more comprehensive benchmarking system for the UK industrial sector. By uniting the legacy of the Top 100 with the MX Awards, the programme now targets both world-class businesses and the exceptional individuals driving transformation within them. David Reynolds, Head of Engineering Services at Siemens, which was named 2025 Manufacturer of the Year, noted that the programme holds a torch for the industry by celebrating the efforts of thousands of workers.
For engineering professionals, this merger reflects a shift where technical proficiency is increasingly inseparable from individual leadership. The awards carry a combined heritage of over 50 years and are widely regarded as a gold standard. Entry into the 2026 edition remains open until the deadline on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 23:59.
Evaluating business and individual engineering performance
The 2026 programme features 14 entry categories, including six newly introduced People Award categories. These individual awards—Sustainability Champion, Technology Champion, Inspiring Leader, ED&I Champion, Commercial Team of the Year, and Young Manufacturer of the Year—will be assessed through virtual judging sessions in September.
Traditional Business Awards categories remain a core component of the programme. These eight categories require in-person judging days and include:
* International Trade
* Leadership & Strategy
* Operational Excellence – Enterprise (turnover over £100 million)
* Operational Excellence – SME (turnover up to £100 million)
* People & Skills
* Product Innovation & Design
* Smart Factory
* Sustainable Manufacturing
To be eligible, businesses must operate at least one manufacturing site within the UK. Judges look for evidence of achievements over the last 12–18 months, specifically seeking out those “doing things differently” and making a measurable difference to their organisations. For many firms, these accolades serve as a critical benchmark. Industrial and engineering stocks rally when companies demonstrate this level of operational maturity and talent retention.
Logistics of the 2026 judging timeline
The entry fee is set at £200 plus VAT, which is fully refundable if an entry is not shortlisted. This mechanism ensures that SMEs and smaller engineering workshops can participate without financial risk if they do not progress. Following the July deadline, shortlisted finalists will be announced during the week commencing August 17, 2026.
The second round of judging involves a two-round process conducted by independent industry experts. Engineering firms must prove they are excelling in their field or pushing the industry forward. This systematic approach to validation is similar to how technical plans for regional gas pipelines require rigorous adherence to international standards before progression.
Taahir Patel, Process Development Manager at LISI Aerospace and a judge for the Young Manufacturer category, encourages entrants to use the process to reflect on their achievements. Successful candidates are expected to be available for either in-person or virtual meetings with the panel to verify the claims made in their online submissions.
The Manufacturer Live and the Liverpool gala
The awards ceremony is the flagship event of The Manufacturer Live, a two-day industrial gathering running from November 10 to 11 in Liverpool. This series includes the Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit, the Manufacturer MX Awards, and the Manufacturing Leaders’ Networking Drinks. It also features The Manufacturer Directors’ Forum, which remains an invitation-only session for senior executives.
The gala dinner itself is a black-tie event beginning at 18:30 with a welcome drinks reception. The formal ceremony and three-course dinner commence at 19:15, featuring a guest speaker and post-ceremony live entertainment. Individual tickets are priced at £375, while a full table of ten is available for £3,285.
Sid Sethi, the founder of Specscart and a previous finalist, remarked that the process helps teams acknowledge the creativity required to overcome daily production challenges. While the 2025 event celebrated winners like Evtec Automotive in the SME category, the 2026 edition aims to broaden this spotlight to include the technology and sustainability champions who maintain the UK’s industrial output.
