Even Realities CEO Will Wang has steered the Shenzhen-based startup to a $1 billion valuation following the launch of its G2 smart glasses, a device that intentionally omits cameras and speakers to prioritise professional productivity. The company recently secured a $150 million pre-Series B funding round led by Meituan and Tencent, signalling investor confidence in a privacy-first approach to wearable hardware.

By focusing on head-up display (HUD) functionality and meeting intelligence rather than social media capture, the firm has carved out a niche for professionals who require discreet data access in sensitive environments.

The G2 model represents a significant iteration over its predecessor, the G1, which launched in 2024. The new device features a 1,200-nit Micro LED monochrome display—an increase from the 1,000 nits on the G1—and a 75% expansion in display area. Furthermore, the G2 offers a 60Hz refresh rate, providing a more fluid interface compared to the 20Hz found on the original model.

While competitors like Meta and Snap are pursuing integrated cameras, Even Realities is betting that a 35-gram magnesium-alloy frame without recording capabilities will be more acceptable in boardrooms and medical consultations.

Even Realities G2 hardware specs and design philosophy

The engineering behind the G2 focuses on long-duration wearability, a metric where many current augmented reality (AR) headsets fail. Weighing just 35 grams, the glasses use a magnesium alloy frame and titanium temples to achieve a weight profile almost identical to traditional luxury eyewear. This design choice targets an average daily wear time of 8 to 10 hours, according to company usage data. The integrated UV-protected lenses can be fitted with prescriptions, often bringing the total order value to approximately $1,000 when combined with accessories.

The display is a monochrome “neon-style” HUD that remains legible in varied lighting conditions due to its 1,200-nit brightness. The device houses four microphones—doubling the count from the first generation—to improve the accuracy of its voice-to-text AI assistant, Even AI. Despite these improvements, the hardware remains dependent on a smartphone connection via a companion app. Early testers reported that while connectivity was initially frustrating, recent app updates have improved the stability of the link between the glasses and the phone.

Building for professional environments and privacy

A central pillar of the company’s strategy is the total exclusion of cameras. CEO Will Wang, part of a founding team of former Apple engineers, has stated that privacy is a foundational decision made from “day one.” This addresses a primary barrier to AR adoption: the social discomfort associated with recording people without their consent. By removing the camera, Even Realities allows users to wear the G2 in rooms where trust is paramount, such as confidential business negotiations.

This privacy-first stance is reinforced by the way the company handles data. Voice interactions are transcribed into text in real-time rather than stored as audio files, and user data is encrypted to meet safety requirements. For practitioners in the African IoT sector, this focus on secure hardware provides a template for industrial applications where data protection is a non-negotiable requirement.

Productivity features for global business travellers

The G2 is positioned as a digital companion rather than a standalone platform. Its software suite includes tools specifically designed for global mobility, such as a real-time translation module. During demonstrations at the 2026 Global Connect Show (GCS) in China, users reported that the “Translate” feature provided sufficient accuracy to follow conversations in Chinese, French, and Spanish. The translated text is projected directly onto the wearer’s field of vision, appearing as green text on a neon-style board.

Another core feature, “Conversate,” has evolved from a simple transcription tool into an AI-powered briefing assistant. Users can upload documents before a meeting, allowing Even AI to surface relevant context during a discussion. For example, if a speaker mentions “Green Hydrogen” during an energy briefing, the glasses can display a short definition bubble. This type of implementation bridges the gap between traditional note-taking and true heads-up intelligence, allowing the user to remain engaged with their interlocutor.

Navigation and notification challenges in the field

Despite the high-end hardware, the G2’s software ecosystem remains iterative. The “Navigate” feature provides turn-by-turn directions suitable for cyclists or pedestrians, but it does not currently integrate with Google Maps or Apple Maps. Routes must be programmed melalui the proprietary Even Realities app. Early testers have noted that while the display is clear, the underlying mapping data can occasionally be inaccurate, a common growing pain for startups building closed-loop navigation systems.

Similarly, the notification system faces occasional reliability issues. In high-noise environments, such as busy streets in India, the four-microphone array sometimes struggles to trigger the AI wake word. As the company continues to hire—expanding from 40 to between 300 and 400 employees—improving these software-hardware handshakes will be critical.

Strategic funding and the quest for unicorn status

Even Realities’ recent $150 million funding round has propelled the company into the “unicorn” category, with a valuation of $1 billion as of July 2026. The round was led by the Chinese food delivery and retail giant Meituan, with participation from Tencent. This capital injection is earmarked for further research and development and expanding the company’s global footprint, which already includes a strong developer community in the United States.

com/ngx-market-capitalization-increase-industrial-engineering-rally/”>industrial and engineering stocks rally on the back of specialized technology. Even Realities claims it is the first in its niche to sell over 10,000 units. Regarding power management, the firm claims the G2’s battery can last up to two days on a single charge under typical usage.

The protective case is designed to recharge the glasses up to seven times, providing portable power for travellers, though users should note that individual battery performance varies by usage patterns.

Evaluating the R1 smart ring companion

Alongside the G2, the company launched the R1 smart ring, priced at $249. The ring acts as a remote controller, allowing users to swipe through menus without reaching for the temples of the frames. It also includes biometric sensors for tracking heart rate and blood oxygen levels (SpO2). However, the ring faces competition from established health-tracking brands.

While the ring’s touch surface works as intended, the G2 glasses already feature touch-sensitive temples that perform identical functions. For many professionals, the additional $249 cost of the ring may be difficult to justify unless they require health tracking as an auxiliary feature. As AI infrastructure trust becomes central to technology debates, the G2’s lack of a camera may shift from a missing feature to a primary selling point for privacy-conscious executives.
