AA Rano Nigeria has launched what it asserts is the country’s first fully automated, unmanned gas stations, marking a significant move toward digitalization in Nigeria’s downstream fuel retail sector.

This initiative is the result of a strategic alliance between AA Rano and Petrosoft Limited, a local technology company providing digital solutions to the oil and gas industry.

The partnership will see Petrosoft’s automated gasoline station system deployed across AA Rano’s retail locations nationwide.

The self-service stations are anticipated to start operating in January 2026, the firm revealed in a statement on Tuesday.

Without the need for fuel attendants, drivers will be able to self-dispense fuel, make cashless payments, and take advantage of real-time system monitoring thanks to the facilities’ round-the-clock operation.

The automated concept, according to AA Rano, is intended to increase operational effectiveness, enhance accountability, and reassure consumers that gasoline levels distributed precisely correspond to what they pay for.

Mohammed Sule, General Manager for Retail at AA Rano Nigeria, commented on the effort, saying that while competition in the downstream petroleum industry heats up, the launch highlights the company’s dedication to innovation and improved consumer experience.

“Our commitment to excellence and innovation led us to Petrosoft. By introducing unmanned, automated stations, we are not just adopting technology; we are setting a new standard for reliability and speed in the Nigerian downstream sector,” Sule said.

“This project ensures our customers can fuel at any time with total confidence,” he added.

The stations will be powered by Petrosoft Limited’s own SmartPump technology, which combines corporate fuel management, retail automation, and inventory tracking, the Punch reports.

In addition to enabling real-time dispenser control, self-service refueling, and automatic vehicle identification for corporate fleets, the technology also offers clever tank measuring and cloud-based monitoring to measure gasoline levels, identify leaks, and prevent theft.
