Egypt is bolstering its position as a manufacturing powerhouse in North Africa with the opening of a new garment production plant that may produce up to $500 million in yearly exports.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly formally launched the new Jade Textile facility in New Borg El Arab City near Alexandria, as part of a tour of numerous industrial projects aimed at strengthening the country’s manufacturing base and export capability.

The factory, owned by the Yesim Group of Turkey, one of the world’s biggest clothing manufacturers, represents an approximately EGP 500 million investment and is projected to contribute significantly to Egypt’s textile and garment exports, Zawya reports.

With yearly export expectations ranging from $250 million to $500 million, the plant demonstrates Egypt’s expanding importance in global textile supply chains, as foreign firms turn to the country for manufacturing and export platforms.

The industrial complex is roughly 60,000 square meters and houses integrated manufacturing activities that cover the whole garment production process, including fabric cutting, embroidery, sewing, and finishing.

The firm employs cutting-edge production technology to boost efficiency, product quality, and global competitiveness.

Beyond increasing exports, the initiative is meant to improve Egypt’s industrial workforce.

The Alexandria complex alone employs approximately 6,000 people, while Yesim Group’s activities in Egypt, including factories in Alexandria, 10th of Ramadan City, and Ismailia, employ nearly 15,000.

The investment comes as Egypt tries to improve value-added manufacturing, foreign exchange revenues, and industrial investment.

The textile and garment sector is one of Egypt’s most significant manufacturing businesses, due to the country’s strategic location between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as advantageous trade agreements that allow it to reach key export markets.

As global supply chains expand, developments like the Jade Textile facility are likely to bolster Egypt’s aim to become a regional leader in garment manufacture and exports.
