Delta Fire has cemented its competitive advantage by winning the Sustainable Manufacturing category at The Manufacturer MX Awards 2025 and two King’s Awards for Enterprise.

Based just outside Norwich at Broadland Business Park, the third-generation family business has demonstrated how significant investment in eco-friendly infrastructure and design principles can transform operations. Jordon King, Delta Fire’s Head of Business Development and Chief Sustainability Officer, noted that sustainability had always been integral to the company’s ethos, embedded by his grandfather from the outset.

Engineering a Net-Zero Delta Fire Manufacturing Hub

The cornerstone of Delta Fire’s sustainability efforts is its £5.5 million headquarters, an investment made in 2022. This purpose-built facility was designed from the ground up to minimise environmental impact, featuring an all-electric infrastructure and holding an A-grade energy certificate. The factory is targeting operational Net Zero by 2025 for its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, a significant milestone in industrial carbon reduction.

Energy self-sufficiency is central to the site’s design. The building incorporates 648 solar panels on its rooftop, generating a substantial 260 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy annually. This is complemented by a 300kWh battery system, allowing the factory to operate without drawing power from the national grid for eight months of the year, showcasing a practical approach to industrial energy management.

Beyond the Grid: Future Energy Investments

Delta Fire recycles heat generated from its machinery, further reducing its energy footprint, and collects rainwater for ground maintenance. The company even supplies excess electricity back to the national grid during periods of overproduction, highlighting its ambition to become a net energy exporter.

Looking ahead, Delta Fire has earmarked £250,000 for additional sustainability initiatives in 2025 and 2026. These plans include the installation of three helical vertical wind turbines, pending planning approval. These turbines will supplement the existing solar power, particularly during winter months, moving the company closer to its goal of full energy independence and carbon neutrality by 2025.

Precision Products for a Changing World

Delta Fire’s engineering excellence extends to its product design, where durability and environmental responsibility are paramount. Its high-performance fire nozzles, including the award-winning Attack Pro range, are engineered for a long lifespan and come with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects. Moreover, 90% of a nozzle’s weight is recyclable at the end of its operational life.

The company also supports its customers by offering free training courses for nozzle maintenance and repair, prolonging product life and reducing waste. This holistic approach ensures that sustainability is embedded not just in manufacturing processes but also throughout the product lifecycle, from production to disposal.

    Innovation in Firefighting Solutions

The evolving landscape of fire risks, particularly with the increase in wildfires and emerging hazards like lithium-ion battery fires, demands innovative solutions. Delta Fire has responded with products such as the new Hydro-Wall Hose, designed to create a continuous water wall fire break up to 80 metres long and 7 metres high.

This product, set to launch at The Emergency Services Show 2024, addresses situations with limited water resources, providing a critical tool for firefighters. Scott Norman, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service, praised the Hydro-Wall as an example of the “innovative thinking that is required across the sector” to tackle escalating risks effectively.

    Digitalisation and Supply Chain Resilience

Delta Fire’s operational efficiency is significantly bolstered by its embrace of digitalisation and automation. The facility uses robot-tended precision CNC machining, alongside real-time machine monitoring and performance dashboards, to optimise production and minimise waste. This data-driven approach informs decision-making, ensuring continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.

While integrating new digital platforms with legacy systems presents challenges, Delta Fire views this as a “people transformation” as much as a technical one. The company emphasises that digital advancements, sustainability goals, and workforce development should be aligned, rather than treated as separate initiatives. This integrated strategy helps ensure that employees are trained and confident in utilising new tools, fostering a culture of adaptability.

    Strengthening the Industrial Backbone

The company has also proactively addressed supply chain vulnerabilities, a critical concern for manufacturers in recent years. Delta Fire has diversified its sourcing options, strengthened relationships with existing partners, and increased supply chain visibility. Where feasible, it has brought capabilities in-house to reduce reliance on external suppliers, building resilience against geopolitical and raw material price volatility.

To tackle Scope 3 emissions, Delta Fire is collaborating with Groundwork East, an environmental consultancy. An initial audit has led to implemented recommendations, with a follow-up audit planned. This demonstrates a comprehensive approach to environmental responsibility that extends beyond direct operational control.

    Awards and Industry Recognition

Delta Fire’s commitment to sustainability and innovation has not gone unnoticed. In 2025, the company received two prestigious King’s Awards for Enterprise, recognising its achievements in Innovation and Sustainable Development. This dual honour highlights a holistic strategy that combines operational sustainability with meaningful product advancements.

Beyond the King’s Awards and The Manufacturer MX Awards 2025 win for Sustainable Manufacturing, Delta Fire has also earned the Carbon Charter Gold Award in 2023, the EDP Environmental & Sustainability Award in 2023, and the Environmental Impact Award in 2024.

These accolades underscore the company’s leadership in embedding environmental responsibility into its core business model. The thoroughness of the MX Awards process is widely recognised for lending significant credibility to its winners, celebrating manufacturing excellence.

    Global Reach and Future Trajectory

With a trading history dating back to the 1980s, Delta Fire has established a significant market presence. The company supplies bespoke fire nozzles to over 75% of the UK’s fire and rescue services and exports its products to more than 90 countries worldwide. This global reach is a testament to the quality and performance of its equipment, which undergoes rigorous testing and continuous refinement.

The future strategy for Delta Fire focuses on scaling its core product range globally, particularly within defence, nuclear, and export markets. The company plans continued investment in research and development and intellectual property, ensuring it remains at the forefront of firefighting innovation. Sustainability will remain central to this strategy, both in operational practices and in the solutions it provides to customers.

Delta Fire also actively supports reforestation efforts in Tanzania, contributing to the planting of over 3,000 trees and offsetting approximately 450 tonnes of carbon. This commitment to broader environmental stewardship demonstrates the company’s long-term vision, proving that high-performance engineering and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive but can instead drive business success.
