In an essential phase toward modernizing Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, digital payments giant Interswitch has revealed a cutting-edge smart parking solution at Asaba International Airport, marking a significant development in the country’s push toward intelligent transportation systems.

The company, in collaboration with Asaba Airport Company, has implemented its proprietary Parking Management Platform (PMP), a completely automated system designed to alter how vehicles move through and interact with airport infrastructure.

The implementation underscores a growing trend in Nigeria’s transportation sector toward digitally enabled infrastructure that can handle expanding passenger volumes and traffic needs more efficiently.

Built to industrial-grade standards, the new technology integrates automation, digital payments, and live operational information to create a unified parking environment.

The system is projected to drastically minimize vehicle bottlenecks, accelerate entry and exit processes, and improve traffic flow across the airport’s grounds, the Punch reports.

Beyond mobility, the solution boosts the airport’s operational backbone.

By replacing manual processes with intelligent automation, the system allows for real-time car tracking, tighter access control, and more efficient use of available parking space, all of which are essential components of creating smarter airport operations.

The installation is a significant renovation project for one of Nigeria’s major airports, not just a parking enhancement.

The platform provides an affordable route to digital transformation and is made to interact with current airport systems without requiring significant structural changes.

According to industry watchers, the implementation may serve as a model for future Nigerian airports, establishing a new standard for the integration of smart technology into vital public infrastructure to improve efficiency, accountability, and passenger experiences.
